Covered in winter snow the face of Mendenhall Glacier rises from the frozen surface of Mendenhall Lake, Tongass Forest, Alaska. The blue color of the recently exposed glacial ice results because the ice is so dense it absorbs all colors of the spectrum except blue which is reflected.
